Biography

Ashley Cruz is an Associate Attorney at the Berenji Law Firm. She has been practicing employment law in California since 2015. Ashley has spent her entire career pursuing justice and advocating for people across the United States. Her passion for upholding, asserting, and defending the rights of others has guided her throughout her career. Ashley has represented children in abuse and neglect proceedings, individuals and families in deportation proceedings, and workers actively seeking legal recourse. Her self-imposed requirement for nothing less than excellent representation, coupled with her dedication to helping others, has received praise from clients, judges, mediators, and fellow professionals.

Ashley handles harassment, discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower, wrongful termination, and wage-and-hour cases. Ashley has extensive experience with employment class and representative actions and has brought countless cases to resolution in seven-figure settlements. She is passionate about representing workers as evidenced in her years of practicing law.  

Even before becoming a licensed attorney, first in Illinois then in California, Ashley gained invaluable experience working and interning in Chicago at two civil defense law firms, a criminal defense law firm, the Circuit Court of Cook County, the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois. Additionally, Ashley is an AmeriCorps alumna in connection with her volunteer experience with the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, which operates self-help centers in Los Angeles-area courthouses.

Ashley received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2011, where she majored in International Development Studies and minored in Political Science and French. In 2014, Ashley graduated from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law with honors.

In 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, Ashley was recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star, a designation reserved for the top 2.5% of attorneys in California.

In her free time, Ashley enjoys hiking, camping, yoga, and spending time with her family.
